Florida Fishing the Bottom
Don’t sit around while bottom fishing! As we all know the best way to catch fish is to work the area that you are in. This applies even more when bottom fishing. Whether you change your bait frequently, move to different fishing spots, or chum more, try different fishing strategies.
If there is one bottom fishing tip that I can give you it would have to be what my fishing buddies and I like to call “the feel”. This “feel” is nothing more than the feeling of when your sinker has reached the bottom and your line is tight. If you can develop this “feeling” you will soon be able to picture what is happening on the bottom.
Three basic bottom fishing rigs that I use the most are the dropper-loop rig, the fish finder rig, and the dipsey rig.

The dropper-loop rig, also known as the guppy rig, is my favorite choice for fishing deep water.

The fish finder rig whether used with an egg sinker or a slide is used for fishing sandy or mud bottoms. It makes it so the fish can grab the bait without feeling any resistance from the sinker.

The dipsey rig is good for casting or trolling bait in shallow water. The sinker drags along the bottom while the bait follows behind. I like to use the dipsey rig while fishing for flounder.
